Q1: Who is eligible to apply for a passport?

A: Only Singapore citizens are eligible to apply for a Singapore passport.
 
Q2: If I was born overseas and have just turned 21 years old, can I apply for a passport without taking my oath?

A: If you are holding dual citizenship and have reached 21 years old, you are required to take your oath of allegiance before your 22nd birthday. Only then can you apply for a Singapore passport.
 
Q3: How can I apply for a passport if I live overseas?

A: As a Singapore citizen residing overseas, you can choose to apply for your passport on-line via APPLES or you can obtain the application forms at the nearest Singapore Overseas Mission and submit your application through the Mission. Thereafter, you can pick up your passport from your desired mission.
 
Q4: What is the requirement for child applicants aged 16 years old and below?

A: Children under 16 years old must obtain parental consent when applying for passports. If you are applying via APPLES, one parent’s particulars would be required for the submission of the passport application.

If you are applying for your passport by Post or by Deposit Box, the consenting parent must complete the declaration portion of the application form on behalf of the child.

If the application is submitted in person at the Customer Service Counter, the parent must be present to consent to the application. If the parent is unable to be present at the point of the application, he/she may nominate and authorize in writing a representative to apply for the passport on his/her behalf. However, the consenting parent will have to be present at the time of collection.
 
Q5: What is the validity of a Singapore Passport?

A: The Singapore Passport is valid for 5 years for first time applicants. If you are renewing your passport which carries a remaining validity of 9 months or less, the remaining validity of your passport will be carried over to your new passport. In such a case, your new passport will have a validity period of 5 years, plus the remaining validity of your old passport up to a maximum of 9 months. However, if you are renewing a passport with more than 9 months validity, your new passport will carry a validity of 5 years and 9 months.
 
Q6(i): What if I have lost my passport?

A: If you have lost your passport, you must report the loss immediately to Immigration & Checkpoints Authority. A police report is required only if the loss of your passport was due to you being a victim of crime. Otherwise, you may execute a Statutory Declaration when you report the loss of your passport at ICA. The passport reported lost will be invalidated with immediate effect and can no longer be used for travelling. If you recover your lost passport, you must surrender the said passport to ICA in person for cancellation within 14 days. Failure to surrender such a recovered passport is an offence punishable by fine or imprisonment or both. You should NOT apply for a replacement passport through APPLES. Please submit your application for a replacement passport by post, by deposit box or in person at our Customer Service Counters.

If your current passport is lost, the following fees are payable:-

(a) For a first-time loss, $120 (inclusive of a replacement fee of S$50 and passport fee of $70*)
(b) For the second loss, $120 (inclusive of a replacement fee of S$50 and passport fee of $70*)

* Please note that the passport fee would be $80 if a counter application is submitted.
 
Q6(ii): What if my passport is damaged?

A: If you have damaged your passport, you should apply for a replacement passport immediately. You may submit your application for a replacement passport by post, deposit box or in person at our Customer Service Counters at Level 3, ICA Building. You should NOT apply for a replacement passport through APPLES.

If your current passport is damaged, the following fees are payable:-

(a) For a first-time damage, $120 (inclusive of a replacement fee of S$50 and passport fee of $70*)
(b) For the second damage, $120 (inclusive of a replacement fee of S$50 and passport fee of $70*)

* Please note that the passport fee would be $80 if a counter application is submitted.
 
Q7: Can additional pages be inserted in the passport if it has run out of pages?

A: No. If your passport has run out of pages, you must apply for a new passport.
 
Q8: With the introduction of the Singapore Biometric Passport (BioPass) on 15 August 2006, can I still use my existing passport?

A: Yes. As long as your passport has at least 6 months of remaining validity, you can continue to use it for your travels*.

(*The grant of entry into a foreign country is the prerogative of the foreign immigration authority concerned. The possession of a valid passport does not always guarantee entry to foreign countries.)

A: The fee for a Singapore passport is S$70/- if you apply through APPLES.

A: If you apply by Post or by Deposit Box, the passport fees is S$70/-. If you apply in person over the counters at Passports Section, ICA Building, the passport fee is S$80/-.

A: Several modes of payment are available depending on the method of passport application you have selected. If you are applying for a passport:

- Through APPLES

a) Payment may be made via
  • VISA Card; or
  • MasterCard Credit/Debit Card; or
  • American Express Card (AMEX); or
  • Internet Banking (Citibank, DBS/POSB or UOB)


  • - By Post

    a) Payment may be made via VISA / MasterCard credit cards, Visa / MasterCard Debit Cards or American Express Cards by completing the relevant portion in your application form

    - At a Customer Service Counter in ICA Building

    a) Payment by NETS is preferred

    - At Overseas Mission
    a) Payment may be made in cash or cheque according to the amount stated by the Overseas Mission.
     
    Q12: What are the requirements for the photograph image and file attachment?

    A: APPLES allows you to submit your photograph for printing onto your passport through an image file attachment. Your photograph image must be in colour and shall be:

    (i) Sharp and clear, 35mm wide by 45mm high without border and taken within the last 3 months;

    (ii) Taken full face with you looking directly at the camera with head straight and eyes open with no hair across and/or covering your eyes/ eyebrows. Both edges of your face and the top of your shoulder must be clearly shown. You must not look over any shoulder and your head must not be tilted;

    (iii) Taken with the image of your face measuring between 25 mm and 35 mm from chin to crown of head;

    (iv) Taken without wearing any hat or other head covering, unless you habitually wear a hat or head covering in accordance with your religious or racial custom. If any such hat or head covering is worn, the photograph must still be a full frontal view of your head and shoulders, showing your facial features in entirety with eyes open and clearly visible;

    (v) If you wear glasses, the photograph must show your eyes clearly with no flash reflection off the glasses. The frames shall not cover any part of your eyes. Tinted glasses and sunglasses are not allowed;

    (vi) Taken with uniform lighting with no flash reflections, no shadows, no uneven bright spots on the face and no red eyes;

    (vii) Of white background, except that where if your hair, hat or head covering is white, the background must be light grey;

    (viii) The photograph must show you alone with no chair back, toys or other persons visible;

    (ix) With a matt or semi-matt finish with no ink marks or creases.

    Your photograph image file attachment must be
        - in JPEG format;

        - the file size should be around 150 Kbytes;

        - the preferred dimension of the photo image is 400 by 514 pixels.
     
    Q13: When can I collect my passport?

    A: You will be notified by post to collect your passport once it is ready. An acknowledgement card (pink card) will be mailed to you within one (1) week from the date after ICA receives your application.
     
    Q14: How will I be notified when to collect my passport?

    A: If you apply through APPLES, you will be notified by e-mail when to collect your passport. You will also receive a pink acknowledgement card stating the collection date for your passport and the necessary items to bring at the time of collection. You can also inquire about the status of your passport application through APPLES.

    If you submit your application by Post or Deposit Box, you will receive a pink acknowledgement card stating the collection date for your passport and the necessary items to bring at the time of collection.

    If you have applied personally at the Customer Service Counter, you will be informed by the officer of the collection date for your passport and the items to produce at the time of collection.
     
    Q15: Where can I collect my passport?

    A: Your passport can be collected at Passports Section, Citizen Services Centre, ICA Building, 2nd Storey, 10 Kallang Road, Singapore 208718.

    If you are eligible to collect your passport at a SingPost outlet or via our automated machine (iCollect), you will be informed vide the passport collection notification card or email if you have applied through APPLES, the online passport application system and provided an email address.

    If you reside overseas, you can collect your passport at the nearest Overseas Mission.
     
    Q16: What should I bring along when I collect my passport?

    A: If you have applied for your passport through APPLES, by Post, by Deposit Box or was not present at the time of application at the Customer Service Counter, you (including child applicants) must call in person to collect your passport. You should bring along all the documents listed in the acknowledgement card sent to you. If the applicant is a child below 16 years of age, the consenting parent should also be present at the time of collection.
     
    Q17: Can I authorize someone to collect my Passport on my behalf?

    A: You can authorize a proxy to collect the passport on your behalf by completing the authorization slip in your receipt ONLY IF you have submitted your passport application in person at our Customer Service Counter. Your proxy is required to produce your original NRIC, his original NRIC and the passport receipt with your authorization, before the passport can be released to him.
     
    Q18: What if I do not collect my passport after applying for one?

    A: The passport has to be collected within 3 months from the date of application. Passports not collected after 3 months will be cancelled and no refund of the passport fee will be given.
     
    Q19: What are the collection hours for Passport Section at ICA Building?

    A: Passport Section is open from 8am to 4.30pm on weekdays, and 8am to 12.30pm on Saturdays.
    For the collection of passports ONLY, Passport Section is open till 4.30pm on weekdays and till 12.30pm on Saturdays.
     
    Q20: have entered my details in the first two pages of the APPLES’ screen. However, after that, the system hangs or closes by itself and goes back to the Main Menu. Why does this happen?

    A: If your system hangs or closes by itself, please check to ensure that security settings on your PC is configured properly. You will need to enable the Java scripting and cookies at your Internet browser.
     
    Q21: I have entered my details in the first two pages of the APPLES’ screen. However, after that, the system shows error message “Page Cannot Be Displayed”. Why does this happen?

    A: If your encounter this message, it means that our system is undergoing service maintenance. You may wish to try using APPLES again at a later time.
     
    Q22: Where can I find the date of issue of NRIC and Date of Passport Expiry?

    A: The information on the date of issue of your NRIC is printed on the back of your NRIC. If you are a full-time NS personnel and have been issued with an 11B, you may wish to check with your respective units for the information on your NRIC.

    You can obtain information on the Date of Passport expiry on the Passport’s data page. If you had ever extended the validity of your existing passport, you need to check for the latest expiry date as reflected in the most recent extension stamp.

    Please ensure that the correct NRIC, NRIC issue date and Passport expiry date is keyed in when using this online system as users would be logged out after 3 unsuccessful attempts.
     
    Q23: I have been trying to attach my photo image online but it keeps prompting me that the photo image does not meet your requirements. I am also unable to view my photo image online.

    A: You are advised to view the details of the error message. Please note that the photo image criteria listed below:
    -   image file is in JPEG format;

    -   preferred dimension is 400 x 514 pixels; and

    -   file size is around 150 Kbytes.

    must be fulfilled in order for APPLES to accept your photo image. However, please note that even after being accepted by the system, your photo image would still be subject to ICA's requirements.

    Please resubmit your application 24 hours after your last attempt. Please contact ICA APPLES Administrator at 6391 6581 for assistance if you are unable to log-in after 24 hours.

    A: As you are submitting the image online, depending on your PC configuration and network connection, it may take up to several minutes before for your image file is uploaded to our server.

    A: Java Plug-in is required for the use of the photo adjustment module in APPLES. Please refer to the Sun java website (http://java.sun.com/getjava/download.html) for the exact version to be used on your PC.
     
    Q27: I have tried to edit my photo image using the Java Plug-In but I found the software to be less user-friendly. Is there any other software that I can use?

    A: You may use your own photo-editing tool to edit your photo image as long as the photo image conforms to APPLES’ image requirements.
     
    Q28: I have submitted my payment details and the system has given me the transaction notification stating that my payment has been approved. After printing the notification, I was not led to the next screen. What should I do?

    Q29: What if my passport is damaged?

    A: If your passport is damaged, you would need to submit your application for a replacement passport by post, deposit box or in person at our Customer Service Counters. The passport fees would be S$120 (inclusive of the non-refundable replacement fee of S$50) for the first replacement and S$170 (inclusive of the non-refundable replacement fee of S$100) for the subsequent replacement if you apply by Post or by Deposit Box. If you apply in person at the counter, your passport fees would be S$130 for the first replacement and S$180 for subsequent replacement.
